A Doctor in Spite of Himself

A Doctor in Spite of Himself

Even though I was rather tired this past Saturday, seeing A Doctor in Spite of Himself at the Intiman was definitely a pick me up. The tickets were a gracious gift from one of the places I volunteer from and even though the theater is rather small (I doubt there are any bad seats), I was able to get seats in the second row. Poking the actors/actresses with my umbrella would of taken little effort

Fortunate for me, I invited a friend who is familiar with Molière while I on the other hand had never heard the name before (thank you public schools). The play was very loosely adapted from one of Molière’s short plays and made into a longer version injected with American humor and culture.

It was an absolute riot of fun costumes and lewd humor. I just loved Daniel Breaker and his portrayal of the fake doctor. There were times that even the cast had to take long pauses to gather their wits, so they wouldn’t bust out laughing on stage. Which only added to the fun atmosphere. There were very small bits that were in French andone song done in French. It seems that I missed out on a couple of jokes during those portions, because my friend was laughing and a couple of people in the crowd did too. Even though a small, very slightly chunky asian man in a cupid outfit is funny on its own.
