The ‘real’ COMPLETE Metropolis. Do I need to say any more? SIFF Cinema will be hosting the most complete version of Metropolis that exists end of October. An unbelievable discovery of a 16mm dupe negative that contains the longest complete version of Metropolis was discovered just 2 years ago in Buenos Aires. It was thought that what they had prior would be the longest and most complete version that will ever exist, but now a whole 25 extra minutes has been added because of this amazing discovery. No, this isn’t like the lame 9 minutes that was held back by James Cameron for Avatar, just so he can re-release the move in theaters and sell more DVDs. This is an actual ‘real’ discovery!
All of that is exciting by itself, but 3 of the screenings will be accompanied by live music. I’m definitely going to attend the Saturday screening of this historic masterpiece. For more information or to buy tickets click here.
Another event I want to promote is The Grand Illusion‘s first ever fundraiser. It was just a couple of months ago when things were looking pretty scary for this historic theater in the University District. Unusually low attendance contributed to the possibility of Seattle losing this beautiful and intimate theater. In case you don’t know, The Grand Illusion is a nonprofit theater that is ENTIRELY run by volunteers. The longest running independent theater in Seattle. Wonderfully quaint theater with velvet drapes and tapestry patterned seats that sits 70 people. It would be sorely missed if anything happened to this amazing theater.

Black Devil Doll – Seriously, how can a movie not be good with this description. “A young, moist, buxom teen vixen finds herself hurled into an odyssey of forbidden sex and unspeakable violence after an innocent evening dabbling in the occult. What started as a simple child’s game has now become a fight for her life! What is this evil that she has summoned from beyond? And why does it have a fro? What kind of horrific acts will she be subjected to? And what price will her super-hot, half-nude friends have to pay?”
Turkish Star Wars – Technically not the real name, but that is the most common name that it is known as.
Alice in Wonderland: An X-Rated Musical Fantasy – Where else in Seattle can you see the XXX version of a musical of Alice in Wonderland? Where I ask you! Where? Because I definitely need to hit that theater. No one believes me, woe is me. But this movie is an absolute gem. The songs were witty and beautifully sung. A+++ on creativity and should be seen by all. Maybe not the XXX version though… There are tamer versions. But I love how The Grand Illusion procures the ‘right’ version (in my opinion). Theater was so crowded that night people were turned away and some people were sitting on the floor.
On September 25th a fundraiser will be held. Snacks, drinks and a true classic is being shown – Casablanca. Who doesn’t like Casablanca? For a small price of $25 you can attend this event that will help this precious theater stay alive. If not for the community, than for me! I don’t want to lose the only theater in Seattle that shows porn during some of their late night screenings and within walking distance from my home. *sob*
I was about to ask which Saturday screening.. then I reread the listing and the month. (I thought they were in August). I shall definitely plan for one of the orchestral shows… and plan quickly.
